Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker

05 May

I don’t have many childhood memories or memories of fairy tales and children stories, but there few images burned into the recesses of my mind.  For instance, a line from Rub-A-Dub-Dub, ‘the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker’ ….or the Chinese brother who drank the lake (from Five Chinese Brothers).

Lately, I’ve been constantly repeating to myself  “the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker”….not the full story….just “the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker”.

Wiki the story and these 3 men were considered knave.   Wiki Five Chinese Brothers,  a story of superhuman strength, yet there was trickery and misrepresentation.

Now this childhood memory has left me wondering and confused.

Does any children’s stories have you confused, wondering WTF?
